Breathing New Life to Abandoned Structures via Adaptive Reuse by Repurposing Existing Building & Structures for New Functions Will Help Preserve Cultural Heritage, Reduce Waste & Enhance The Biodiversity of The Lagoon

Adaptive reuse, Rodolfo Machado (1976) describes it as architectural palimpsests. It is the alteration of old buildings as a type of rewriting on the same “canvas,” where the old “story” of a building can be seen by writing a new “plot” on top. The previously written and marked “canvas” that the past provides is where each subsequent remodelling will find its unique place. As a result, the past takes on the form of a “package of sense” with meaning that can be transformed, rejected, or accepted (maintained).
